THE DFB MEDIA DAY FOR THE 2022 WORLD CUP IN QATAR WAS MY VERY FIRST EXPERIENCE WORKING WITH THE GERMAN NATIONAL TEAM — AND ALSO THE FIRST TIME WE FULLY SHIFTED OUR FOCUS TOWARD VIDEO-FIRST CONTENT PRODUCTION WITH THE PLAYERS.

DUE TO ONGOING COVID RESTRICTIONS AT THE TIME, SEVERAL KEY MEMBERS OF OUR INTERNAL CREW WERE UNABLE TO ATTEND. WITHIN JUST TWO DAYS, I HAD TO BUILD A COMPLETELY NEW PRODUCTION TEAM FROM SCRATCH, SOURCING TRUSTED EXTERNAL CREATIVES WHO BROUGHT OUR IDEAS TO LIFE UNDER IMMENSE TIME PRESSURE AND WITH PRECISION.

AT A DFB MEDIA DAY, TIME HAD ALWAYS BEEN THE MOST VALUABLE CURRENCY. DEPENDING ON THE SCHEDULE, WE HAD NO MORE THAN 5–10 MINUTES PER PLAYER ON SET — SOMETIMES EVEN LESS. EVERY SECOND OF A NATIONAL TEAM PLAYER’S TIME WAS METICULOUSLY PLANNED AND TIGHTLY CONTROLLED. THERE WAS ZERO ROOM FOR ERROR — BUT ALSO NO FEAR, BECAUSE WE CAME IN PREPARED. IF PLAN A DIDN’T WORK, WE HAD PLAN B READY.

PLANNING WAS EVERYTHING. FROM SET DESIGN AND LIGHTING SETUPS TO CAMERA ANGLES, DIALOGUE PROMPTS, AND PRE-VISUALIZED SHOT LISTS — EVERY DETAIL NEEDED TO BE SPOT-ON TO CAPTURE THE E-COM AND SOCIAL CONTENT WE WERE AIMING FOR.

AND WE MADE IT HAPPEN.

– COLLABORATED WITH ADIDAS & THE GERMAN FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION (DFB) TO ALIGN SCHEDULES, PRIORITIES, AND CONTENT GOALS
– DIRECTED VIDEO-FIRST CONTENT STRATEGY WITH A STRONG FOCUS ON EFFICIENT STORYTELLING UNDER EXTREME TIME PRESSURE
– CREATED DETAILED SHOT LISTS AND PRE-PLANNED SCENARIOS TO MAXIMIZE OUTPUT DURING 5–10 MIN PLAYER TIME SLOTS
– OVERSAW ALL SET BUILDS, LIGHTING, CAMERA SETUPS, AND TRANSITIONS ACROSS MULTIPLE PRODUCTION STATIONS
– ACTED AS ON-SET DIRECTOR TO ENSURE ALL DELIVERABLES FOR E-COM, SOCIAL & CAMPAIGN NEEDS WERE MET
